I've guided hundreds of founders through the incorporation process across Hong Kong and Singapore. The questions are always different; the mistakes are usually the same. I write to help people avoid them.
Key Takeaways
Since 20 October 2026, your registered office needs no set opening hours, but your records must still be available for inspection on reasonable notice.
Your next annual return asks you to confirm every officer's details held by ACRA, so update Bizfile before you file.
The EDGE Grant replaced EDG, MRA and PSG on 30 September 2026 and requires at least 30% Singaporean or PR ownership.
YA 2026 corporate tax returns are due by 30 November 2026, the same deadline ACRA set for switching to BizFinx Prep Tool version 4.0.1.
The biggest change this autumn is one you'll only notice when you file your next annual return.
That's the problem with running a Singapore company from abroad. Three agencies published five changes in four weeks, each written for a different audience, and none of them with a founder in Lisbon or Bangkok in mind. Does the registered office rule your provider quoted last year still apply? Is the PSG grant you were planning to use still open?
Miss one of these and you find out from a rejected filing.
This roundup takes each change in turn: what changed and what to do about it, with the official source. It's based on the official ACRA, IRAS and Enterprise Singapore announcements covering 29 September to 19 October 2026, read in full in October 2026.

| BizFinx Prep Tool Version 4.0.1 | Switch by 30 Nov 2026 | Ask your accountant which version they use |
ACRA: Your Registered Office No Longer Needs Set Opening Hours
What changed. From 20 October 2026, ACRA (the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority, Singapore's company registrar) removed the requirement for a company's registered office to be open to the public for minimum hours on every business day. Records still have to be available. ACRA's 6 October 2026 announcement says anyone who wants to inspect company records must give reasonable notice, and the company must then make the records available for at least two hours on each relevant business day.
For a founder abroad, your registered office is almost always your corporate service provider's address. The flexibility goes to them. The duty to produce your records on request is still yours.
What to do. Ask your provider how they'll handle an inspection request now that there are no fixed opening hours, and where your statutory registers are kept. If you change your registered office, you still have to file the new address within 14 days. Our guide to registered addresses in Singapore covers what counts as a valid address when you live outside Singapore.
ACRA: Your Annual Return Now Asks You to Confirm Everyone's Details
What changed. Since 20 October 2026, companies filing an annual return must confirm that the particulars ACRA holds for their directors, CEOs, secretaries, auditors and relevant members are accurate. That covers names, identification details, nationality, contact address, appointment dates, registered office address and shareholding details, where they apply. The annual return form also has a new question asking whether any individual performs the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in the company.
Founders abroad are the people this catches. A renewed passport or a move from London to Dubai can leave ACRA's records out of date, and now the filer has to confirm them line by line.
What to do. Before your next annual return, log in to Bizfile (ACRA's online filing portal) and check every officer's details against their current documents. File any changes first, then the annual return. Decide in advance who performs the CEO role in your company, because the form will ask. Our step-by-step guide to filing an annual return in Singapore is updated for both changes.
The same 20 October changes also shortened ACRA's striking-off timelines. If you're planning to close a dormant company, check the new process before you apply.
IRAS: New Tools for This Filing Season, Same 30 November Deadline
What changed. The deadline didn't move. IRAS (the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore) still expects YA 2026 corporate tax returns by 30 November 2026. What's new is the help. According to IRAS’s 19 October 2026 media release, more than 323,000 companies are filing for YA 2026, including over 37,000 newly incorporated ones. The new tools include:
- Filing Obligations Checker on the IRAS chatbot, which tells newly incorporated companies whether and when they need to file.
- myTax Portal Troubleshooting Assistant, which walks you through common login and access problems on myTax, the portal where you file.
- Record Keeping Assistant, which helps you keep and organise your business records for tax preparation in a single file.
- Business Expense Deductibility Checker, which helps you test whether an expense is deductible.
The troubleshooting assistant is the one founders abroad should bookmark. Filing runs through Corppass, Singapore's government login for businesses, and access problems are much harder to fix from another time zone a week before the deadline.
IRAS is also enforcing. Since January 2026 it has issued more than 4,100 Notices to Attend Court to companies that didn't file for YA 2025 and earlier years, and late filers can be fined up to SGD 5,000.
What to do. If your company was incorporated in 2025, use the Filing Obligations Checker to confirm whether you file this year. If you closed your first accounts in 2025, IRAS may not issue your return automatically, so request it through IRAS's online form. Our Singapore filing deadlines checker shows your estimated chargeable income (ECI), annual return and tax return dates from your financial year end.
Enterprise Singapore: The EDGE Grant Replaces EDG, MRA and PSG
What changed. The Enterprise Development Grant (EDG), Market Readiness Assistance (MRA) grant and Productivity Solutions Grant (PSG) ceased on 29 September 2026. Enterprise Singapore's EDGE Grant page says new applications go to the EDGE Grant from 30 September. Here's how it works:
| Feature | EDGE Grant |
|---|---|
| Who Can Apply | A business registered in Singapore with at least 30% ownership by Singapore citizens or permanent residents |
| Support Level | Generally up to 50% for SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) and up to 30% for larger companies; up to 70% and 50% respectively for internationalisation and sustainability activities |
| Annual Cap | SGD 100,000 per company across all activities, reset on 1 April; up to SGD 30,000 of it for pre-approved single-function digital tools, integrated enterprise systems and pre-scoped equipment |
| How It’s Paid | Reimbursement, after the activity is completed and paid for |
The ownership rule is the one that matters if you run your company from abroad. If none of your shareholders are Singapore citizens or permanent residents, your company doesn't qualify, whatever the project. A company that does qualify also has to submit its applications through its own authorised staff: Enterprise Singapore's FAQ says vendors, service providers and corporate secretaries can't apply on your behalf.
If you applied for EDG, MRA or PSG before 30 September 2026, your application is still assessed under that scheme's rules and supported to completion. Claims for programmes supported by SkillsFuture Enterprise Credit (SFEC) under those schemes are due by 30 November 2026.
What to do. Check your shareholding before you plan around a grant. Our guide to SME grants in Singapore for non-residents covers which schemes a foreign-owned company can still use.
ACRA: Update the BizFinx Prep Tool by 30 November
What changed. On 19 October 2026, ACRA released version 4.0.1 of the BizFinx Prep Tool, the software used to prepare, validate and upload financial statements in XBRL (the machine-readable format ACRA requires). ACRA's announcement says users must move to the new version by 30 November 2026.
The update makes the employee-number fields optional and reclassifies some validation errors as "possible errors", so a company can file without applying for a business rule exemption once it has confirmed the item isn't a mistake. Files made in older versions open in the new one without losing data.
What to do. If your accountant prepares your XBRL financial statements, ask them to confirm they've switched. If you prepare them yourself, uninstall the old version and download 4.0.1 before you file.

FAQs
Does a Singapore registered office still need minimum opening hours?
No. Since 20 October 2026, ACRA no longer requires a registered office to be open to the public for minimum hours each business day. The records duty remains: anyone entitled to inspect your company records must give reasonable notice, and your company must then make the records available for at least two hours on each relevant business day. You still have to file any change of registered office address within 14 days.
What is the new CEO question in the ACRA annual return?
Since 20 October 2026, the annual return form asks whether any individual performs the role of Chief Executive Officer in the company. The filer must also confirm that the particulars ACRA holds for directors, CEOs, secretaries, auditors and relevant members are accurate, including names, identification details, nationality, contact address and appointment dates. ACRA asks companies to review and update their records in Bizfile before submitting the annual return.
Can I still apply for the PSG or EDG grant in Singapore?
No. The Productivity Solutions Grant (PSG), Enterprise Development Grant (EDG) and Market Readiness Assistance (MRA) grant ceased on 29 September 2026. New applications go to the EDGE Grant, launched on 30 September 2026. Applications submitted before 30 September continue to be assessed under the old scheme's rules, and ongoing projects are supported until completion and claim.
Can a foreign-owned Singapore company get the EDGE Grant?
Only if Singapore citizens or permanent residents own at least 30% of it. Enterprise Singapore requires an EDGE applicant to be registered in Singapore with at least 30% Singaporean or PR ownership, and other conditions may apply depending on the activity. A company with no Singaporean or PR shareholders doesn't qualify, whatever the project.
Do I need to update the BizFinx Prep Tool?
Yes, if you or your accountant use it to prepare financial statements in XBRL for ACRA. ACRA released version 4.0.1 on 19 October 2026 and says users must transition to it by 30 November 2026. Uninstall the old version and download the new one. Files created in earlier versions open in 4.0.1 without losing data.
