20+ years in Asia as a corporate lawyer, investor, and fintech founder. I've sat on both sides of the table and seen the same avoidable mistakes hit founders again and again. The reviews and articles I write are for founders who'd rather skip the mistakes.
If you're here to find out whether Statrys or Airwallex is better, my answer might surprise you. On paper, Airwallex has the bigger numbers: more currencies, more countries, more integrations. But bigger isn't automatically better once you look at what your business actually needs to run smoothly.
Airwallex can work out cheaper if your business receives payments frequently or at high volume, but reaching its more advanced tools and account support means moving onto a paid monthly plan, and your costs shift with usage either way. Statrys gives you its full feature set and flat pricing from day one, with no plan to upgrade into.
Which one wins for you comes down to whether you value scale and flexibility more than clarity and full access without paying extra for it. That's the contest running through everything below.

Quick Take: Which One You Should Use?
Choose Statrys if:
✔️ You want a simple multi-currency account to hold, send, and receive money locally and internationally in all major currencies.
✔️ You prefer fixed fees to predict the budget easily.
✔️ You prefer speaking with a human directly when issues arise.
Choose Airwallex if:
✔️ You need local accounts in many regions to collect money like a local business.
✔️ Your business requires advanced tools like payment gateways and APIs to simplify operations.
✔️ You want broader integrations for automation, marketplaces, or scaling globally.
For most Hong Kong SMEs focused on managing international payments efficiently, Statrys offers a more straightforward and predictable setup. Airwallex is better suited to businesses building payment infrastructure into their systems or businesses registered outside Hong Kong, Singapore, and the British Virgin Islands (BVI).
The right choice depends on whether you prioritise simplicity and responsive support, or technical flexibility for global scale.
Business Account Features Comparison

| Send money overseas | To 100+ countries | To 200+ countries |
| Transfer limit | No minimum or maximum transfer limit | Varies depending on factors such as currencies, payment channels, and account capabilities. |
| International (SWIFT) transfer speed | Within 3 business days | Within 3 business days |
| Real-time payment tracking tool | ✅ | Not specified |
| Integration | Xero, Shopify, Stripe, PayPal | Xero, QuickBooks, HubSpot, Zapier, Amazon and more |
| Local currency accounts | Local receiving details in 6 countries for Hong Kong account holders: UK, Germany, Luxembourg, Denmark, Liechtenstein, Australia, with free GBP/EUR sending | Local receiving details in 14 countries for Hong Kong account holders: Australia, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Israel, Mexico, New Zealand, Singapore, UAE, UK, US |
| Other offers | Maker-approver workflow, free MT 103 (SWIFT receipt), complimentary invoice software, company incorporation, and accounting services. | Batch payments, APIs for developers, payment gateway, checkout page, plugins, payment links |
The feature differences here point to two different ways of running payments, not just two different feature lists.
Statrys's integrations (Xero, Shopify, Stripe, PayPal) suit a business that mostly needs to invoice clients and take simple e-commerce payments without wiring anything together. Airwallex's list (Xero, QuickBooks, HubSpot, Zapier, Amazon and more) leans toward businesses that want payments to plug into a wider stack, whether that's marketplace payouts, CRM-linked billing, or automated workflows through Zapier. If you're not planning to build any of that, the longer integration list isn't really an advantage.
The same logic applies to local currency accounts. Airwallex offers local receiving details in 14 countries against Statrys's 6, but the more useful question is whether your customers or suppliers are actually in those extra markets. Statrys's 6 countries (UK, Germany, Luxembourg, Denmark, Liechtenstein, Australia) already cover a large share of where Hong Kong businesses typically trade with Europe and Australia. Unless your business specifically deals with places like Indonesia, Mexico, or Israel, where Airwallex offers local accounts and Statrys doesn't, the wider number may not translate into a real advantage for you.
Where Airwallex has a genuine edge for most businesses is transfer breadth: sending to 200+ countries in 90+ currencies locally, versus Statrys's 100+ countries and 12 local-sending currencies. If your business regularly pays suppliers or contractors across many different countries, that gap is worth weighing seriously. Airwallex's lack of a stated real-time payment tracking tool is a smaller but real trade-off against that breadth, particularly for businesses that rely on visibility into where a payment is at any given moment.
Real-time tracking means you're never left guessing
The anxious few days between sending an international payment and confirming it landed are where most account-holder stress happens. Statrys's real-time tracking tool lets you see exactly where a transfer sits in that process, so you can tell a supplier or client what to expect without opening a support ticket to find out. Airwallex's table doesn't list an equivalent tool, so if this kind of visibility matters to your day-to-day operations, it's worth confirming directly with them before deciding where to hold your money.

** Airwallex's exact wording from their official account dashboard (September 2026):

Which one is right for your business?
The crossover point comes down to how large your typical incoming payment is. Airwallex charges 0.3% per deposit, while Statrys charges a flat HKD 60 to receive an international payment. That works out to a breakeven point of about HKD 20,000 per transaction. Below that, Airwallex's 0.3% fee is the cheaper option. Above it, Statrys's flat HKD 60 wins out.
For a business receiving 10 international payments a month averaging HKD 50,000 each (HKD 500,000 total), that difference plays out like this:
- Airwallex: 0.3% x HKD 50,000 = HKD 150 per transaction x 10 = HKD 1,500/month
- Statrys: HKD 60 per transaction x 10 = HKD 600/month
That's roughly HKD 900 a month, or close to HKD 10,800 a year, back in your account simply because your average payment size sits above the breakeven point. Businesses that receive many small payments (marketplace payouts, for example) may find the maths runs the other way.
FX conversion follows a similar pattern. Statrys's rate starts from 0.1% above the mid-market rate, while Airwallex starts from 0.2%, so frequent currency conversions add up faster on Airwallex, on top of any deposit fees.
The one factor that can offset this is Airwallex's monthly account fee. Its free plan carries no monthly charge, but the Grow (HKD 499/month) and Accelerate (HKD 2,499/month) plans, which unlock features like multi-user workflows or a dedicated account manager, add a fixed cost of their own that needs to be weighed against any per-transaction savings.
In short: if your payments tend to be large and infrequent, Statrys's flat fee is very likely cheaper and easier to forecast. If they're small and frequent, it's worth running your own numbers against Airwallex's percentage-based structure before assuming either platform is the cheaper option.
Why pay HKD 2,499 a month for a dedicated account manager?
Statrys doesn't charge a monthly account fee at any stage, no matter how your business grows. Airwallex's Explore plan is free too, but growing past its basic feature set, whether that's multi-user access, approval workflows, or the dedicated account manager covered below, means moving onto the Grow or Accelerate plan, at HKD 499 or HKD 2,499 a month.
That monthly cost sits on top of the same per-transaction fees every Airwallex customer already pays, so upgrading buys extra tools, not a cheaper account. Statrys includes a dedicated account manager for every customer, free, from the day you open an account. If you'd rather not have a growing business come with a growing subscription bill, that's one less thing to plan around with Statrys.

Customer Support Comparison
| Features | Statrys | Airwallex |
|---|---|---|
| Dedicated Account Manager | ✅ | Available only on the Accelerate plan (HKD 2,499 per month) |
| Communication Channels | FAQs, phone, email, website, live chat, WhatsApp, and WeChat | Help Centre, contact form, chatbot |

The working hours are not specified 24/7 chatbot via website (automated, with Airwallex replying during business hours if needed) |
If direct human support matters to you, Statrys is likely the better choice. Airwallex focuses more on digital support, with dedicated managers reserved for top-tier plans.
Every Statrys customer gets a dedicated account manager. Only Airwallex's top tier subscription matches this.
This shows up most when something needs sorting quickly: a delayed transfer, a document that needs resubmitting, a question about a specific transaction. Statrys assigns every account a dedicated account manager as standard, at no extra cost.
On Airwallex, only accounts on the Accelerate plan, starting at HKD 2,499 a month, have access to a dedicated account manager. Everyone else works through the Help Centre, a contact form, or the chatbot. For a growing business that isn't yet generating enough volume to justify that plan, this can mean the difference between a same-day answer and a queue.

|---|---|---|
| Trustpilot Score | 4.8/5 (450+ reviews) | 2.9/5 (2,558 reviews) |

The Bottom Line
Both Statrys and Airwallex offer solid business accounts for Hong Kong companies, but the right choice depends on how your business gets paid, what tools you need to plug into, and how you want to be supported when something goes wrong.
Choose Statrys if:
- Your payments are large and infrequent, where flat fees beat Airwallex's 0.3% per deposit
- You mainly need simple invoicing and e-commerce tools (Xero, Shopify, Stripe) rather than a wider automation stack
- You'd rather resolve issues with a dedicated account manager than a support queue
Choose Airwallex if:
- You receive many smaller payments
- You need local receiving accounts beyond the UK, Europe, and Australia, or plan to build with APIs, gateways, or tools like Zapier and HubSpot
- Broader country and currency coverage matters more to you than fee predictability
Do the maths on your own average payment size against that HKD 20,000 breakeven point before picking one.
