Aspire's card programme is stronger than it looks on the surface: 1.2% cashback now applies to all eligible card spend, not just marketing and SaaS spend as it previously did, and virtual cards remain free to issue for team members and external partners alike. For a business running a lean team with regular card spend, that's money back every month.
The friction shows up elsewhere: Aspire's FX fee of 0.18% is higher than some alternatives available in Hong Kong, and there's a structural change worth knowing about before you apply. Aspire now splits Basic (free) and Premium (HKD 399 a month) plans, with Premium currently offered through a waitlist, and the free plan's virtual card allowance is capped at 200, not unlimited as it's sometimes described.
This review covers what Aspire Hong Kong actually costs, where its card programme earns its reputation, and where to look if it turns out not to fit.
| Category | Detail |

| Eligibility | Companies incorporated in 16 countries, including Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, and the US |
| Currencies | 13 held, with local collection in HKD, CNY, USD, EUR, and GBP |

| Support | Live chat, email, and WhatsApp |
Aspire rewards businesses with regular card spend that want cashback on it and don't need the lowest possible FX fee. It's a weaker fit for a business that mostly moves money internationally rather than spending on cards, since the 0.18% FX fee and per-transfer international fees add up faster than they would with a lower-fee provider.
Disclosure: Statrys competes directly with Aspire for businesses registered in Hong Kong. This review was built from Aspire's own published pricing and regulatory pages, plus verified Trustpilot data, all checked in September 2026.

Who Aspire Is Right For
Good fit
- Teams with regular card spend. 1.2% cashback now applies to all eligible card spend, not just marketing and SaaS.
- Teams that need lots of virtual cards. Up to 200 free on the Basic plan, each with its own limit and instant freeze.
- Ecommerce sellers. Direct integrations with Shopify, Amazon, TikTok, Shopee, Stripe, PayPal, Payoneer, and Adyen.
- Businesses paying mostly within Hong Kong. FPS transfers are free to send and receive.
Not a good fit
- Frequent international senders. The 0.18% FX fee plus SWIFT fees from USD 15 per transfer add up at volume.
- Businesses wanting Aspire's lowest FX fees for free. 0% FX on the first HKD 80,000 a month, and the 300-card cap, need Premium at HKD 399 a month, which currently has a waitlist.
- Businesses that handle cash or cheques. Aspire has no branches and no cash handling.
- Teams wanting one named contact. Support runs through live chat, email, and WhatsApp, and reviewers describe it as inconsistent.

How Long It Takes
Aspire says it will get back to applicants within 5 business days on whether their account has been activated or more documents are needed, and that timeline is achievable for an established business with complete documentation and an active web presence.
For newer businesses, or those without a website or a clear online footprint, applicants report the process taking meaningfully longer, since additional documents are typically requested by email before the review can be completed.
If your application has a deadline attached, whether a contract to sign or a payment to receive, it's worth applying earlier than the 5-business-day timeline suggests and treating it as the best case rather than the expected case.
Aspire Fees
Aspire charges no monthly fee, no setup fee, and no minimum balance on its Basic plan. All figures below are drawn directly from Aspire's Hong Kong pricing page and its Help Centre transfer guides.
Account and Payment Fees
| Fee Type | Amount |
|---|---|
| Monthly Fee | HKD 0 (Basic) |
| Setup Fee | HKD 0 |
| Minimum Balance / Deposit | HKD 0 |
| FPS Transfer (Send or Receive) | Free |
| CHATS Transfer | Receive HKD 15; Send HKD 55 |
| SWIFT Transfer, Receive | HKD 60, CNY 55, or USD 8 |
| SWIFT Transfer, Send (Shared / SHA) | Equivalent of USD 15 |
| SWIFT Transfer, Send (OUR, Sender Covers All Fees) | Equivalent of USD 30 |
| FX Fee (Basic Plan) | From 0.18% |
| ATM Withdrawal | HKD 40 plus the ATM operator’s own fee |
Card Fees
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Cashback | 1.2% on all eligible card spend, no minimum |
| Virtual Cards | Up to 200 included free (Basic plan) |
| Physical Card | 1 free per user; HKD 118 per additional physical card |
| Spend Users | 5 free users (Basic); HKD 30 per additional spend user a month |
Not sure why a SWIFT payment costs more and takes longer than FPS? Here's how SWIFT payments actually work.
Where the numbers actually land:
- Cashback is the upside. 1.2% cashback on all eligible card spend lets a business with regular card spend offset a meaningful share of its other fees.
- International transfers are the downside. Each SWIFT payment costs the equivalent of USD 15-30, plus the 0.18% FX fee. CHATS payments cost HKD 55 each, while FPS is free.
In short, card-heavy businesses earn more in cashback than they pay in transfer fees. Businesses that mostly send money abroad pay more in FX and transfer fees than the cashback gives back.

Hold funds in 13 currencies (HKD, CNY, USD, EUR, GBP, SGD, JPY, AUD, CAD, NZD, CHF, NOK, and SEK), and receive local transfers in HKD, CNY, USD, EUR, and GBP without a forced conversion. Aspire also advertises same-day local payouts across 38 payment rails and batch transfers from HKD, CNY, and USD accounts.
Corporate cards. Each user gets one free physical Visa card, and the Basic plan includes up to 200 free virtual cards, each with its own spending limit and instant freeze. Cards can also be issued to external partners, such as an accountant, at no extra cost, so team members can pay independently without sharing a card or chasing reimbursements.
Cashback. 1.2% cashback applies to all eligible card spend, with no minimum. A business spending HKD 50,000 a month on its Aspire card earns HKD 600 back each month, or HKD 7,200 a year.
Ecommerce and marketplace integrations. Direct connections to Shopify, Amazon, Stripe, and PayPal bring marketplace revenue straight into the account. Xero syncs hourly and QuickBooks is also supported, which cuts down reconciliation work.
Yield. The Basic plan offered up to 3.14% p.a. on USD and 1.84% p.a. on HKD balances (as of 31 July 2026, after fees), with no minimum balance and next-business-day access. Returns aren't guaranteed, but it's a way to earn something on idle cash.

Aspire holds a 3.9 out of 5 rating on Trustpilot ("Great") from 253 reviews. The profile has been claimed since February 2024 and has a paid Trustpilot subscription. Reviewers most often praise the platform's ease of use, clean interface, and the responsiveness of individual account contacts during onboarding.
That praise sits alongside a recurring pattern in Aspire's negative reviews. Reviewers describe incoming transfers held for weeks without a clear explanation, including one still uncredited after 28 days. Others describe accounts closed soon after approval with little more than a policy reference, and applications rejected with a template "exceeds our risk appetite" email.
For a business where payment timing matters (supplier payments, cross-border payroll, or anything with a contractual deadline), that inconsistency is worth weighing seriously.

What This Looks Like in Practice
Rates only tell part of the story. Which provider costs less depends on whether your business spends mostly on cards or moves money mostly across borders. Here are two examples using both providers' current published fees.
The FX-heavy exporter. This business converts HKD 500,000 a month, sends 10 SWIFT payments and receives 3.
| Monthly Cost | Aspire | Statrys |
|---|---|---|
| FX | HKD 900 | HKD 500 |
| SWIFT Sending | HKD 1,170 | HKD 850 |
| SWIFT Receiving | HKD 187 | HKD 180 |
| Total | HKD 2,257 | HKD 1,530 |
Statrys saves this business close to HKD 8,700 a year, and the gap widens as conversion volume grows.
The card-heavy team. This business has HKD 80,000 a month in HKD-billed digital marketing and SaaS card spend, converts HKD 20,000 a month, sends 2 SWIFT payments, receives 1, and has 8 team members who each need a physical card.
| Monthly Cost | Aspire | Statrys |
|---|---|---|
| FX | HKD 36 | HKD 20 |
| SWIFT Sending | HKD 234 | HKD 170 |
| SWIFT Receiving | HKD 62 | HKD 60 |
| Physical Cards | Free (1 per user) | HKD 273 (7 additional cardholders) |
| Spend Users | HKD 90 (3 above the 5 free on Basic) | Not charged separately |
| Total Fees | HKD 422 | HKD 523 |
| Cashback Earned | HKD 960 | None |
| Net Result | +HKD 538 (cashback exceeds fees) | −HKD 523 |
Aspire comes out more than HKD 1,100 a month ahead, or over HKD 13,000 a year.
If the card spend is billed in a foreign currency, Statrys' 1.99% overseas transaction fee applies, and Aspire says an FX fee may apply too. Statrys doesn't offer card cashback, so a business whose main cost is card spend will usually do better with Aspire.
Neither provider wins outright. Statrys' lower FX fee wins for businesses that mostly convert and send money internationally. Aspire's cashback wins for businesses that spend heavily on cards, especially with several cardholders. If your business does a mix of both, run your own numbers through the calculator below rather than going by either headline: Aspire's "free account" or Statrys' "from 0.1% FX".
Where Statrys Has the Edge
Statrys competes directly with Aspire for businesses registered in Hong Kong. It's the stronger fit when a low FX fee matters more than card cashback, or when you'd rather have one named contact than a shared support queue.
- Lower FX fees. FX fees start from 0.1% on major currencies, compared with Aspire's 0.18% on the free Basic plan.
- A dedicated account manager. Every business account gets a named account manager from day one, instead of live chat, email, or WhatsApp support.
- Local currency accounts outside Asia. Get IBANs, sort codes and BSB numbers in the UK, Germany, Luxembourg, Australia, Denmark, and Liechtenstein.
- 11 currencies on one account. Hold and manage 11 major currencies in a multi-currency account, with no minimum balance.
- Fast account opening. 96% of clients opened their accounts within 3 business days, and over 10,000 businesses currently hold a Statrys account.
- Incorporation, account and accounting with one provider. Statrys also handles company incorporation and bookkeeping, so a founder setting up in Hong Kong can register the company, open the account, and start bookkeeping with a single provider.

FAQs
Is Aspire a bank?
No. Aspire is not a bank. In Hong Kong, it operates through AFT HK Limited, licensed as a Money Service Operator (MSO No. 24-02-03202) by the Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department, not the Hong Kong Monetary Authority. Because it isn't a bank, client funds aren't covered by the Deposit Protection Scheme, run by the Hong Kong Deposit Protection Board, which applies only to licensed banks.
How much does it cost to open and maintain an Aspire Hong Kong account?
Opening and maintaining an account on the Basic plan is free: no setup fee, no monthly fee, and no minimum balance. Costs come from activity: HKD 55 to send a CHATS payment, HKD 60 (or USD 8 for USD) to receive a SWIFT payment, and the equivalent of USD 15 to 30 to send one, plus a 0.18% FX fee on conversions.
Does Aspire's cashback really apply to everything now?
Yes, as of this review, 1.2% cashback applies to all eligible card spend, not just marketing and SaaS purchases as it did previously. There's no minimum spend requirement, and it's included on the free Basic plan.
What cards does Aspire offer, and how many can I issue?
Each user gets one free physical Visa card, and additional physical cards cost HKD 118 each. Virtual cards are free up to a limit: 200 on the Basic plan and 300 on the Premium plan (HKD 399 a month, currently offered through a waitlist).
What should I do if Aspire holds a payment or delays a transfer?
Reach out through live chat or email as soon as you notice the delay, and be ready to provide documentation about the payment's purpose. Reviewers report that resolution times vary, so if a payment is time-sensitive, it's worth building in a buffer rather than assuming same-day resolution.
What is the best Aspire alternative for businesses in Hong Kong?
It depends on what's pushing you away from Aspire. If FX fees or support are the issue, Statrys is a direct alternative for Hong Kong-registered businesses, with FX fees from 0.1% and a dedicated account manager for every business account. If card cashback is your main reason for using Aspire, compare other providers' card programmes first, since Statrys doesn't offer cashback.
