Monzo built its business account on the back of one of the UK's most-loved banking apps, and the numbers back up the reputation: over 1 million UK businesses now bank with Monzo, and it holds a 4.6 out of 5 rating on Trustpilot. The free Lite plan already includes Making Tax Digital software, which became mandatory in April 2026 for sole traders and landlords with qualifying income (turnover before expenses) over GBP 50,000, so a lot of UK founders get real value before paying a penny. The friction shows up once you actually apply. Monzo only accepts businesses that are based, registered, and tax resident solely in the UK, and you need to be physically in the UK, without a VPN, when you apply, so a founder running the business from abroad has no way through. The account also holds GBP only, so any business with real international cash flow pays a 1% conversion fee on every incoming foreign-currency payment, capped at GBP 1,000 per transaction. This review covers what Monzo Business actually costs across its three plans, exactly who clears the eligibility bar and who does not, and where to look if Monzo turns out not to fit. At a Glance

Revolut Business built its reputation on being the account that does everything: 25+ currencies, physical and virtual cards, crypto, FX forwards, and accounting integrations, all inside one app. Revolut's Trustpilot profile, which covers all its products, rates it 4.7 out of 5 across more than 450,000 reviews. In 2026, Revolut also finished the transition its critics had been waiting on for years, becoming a fully licensed UK bank, with new business accounts opened directly as FSCS-eligible deposits with Revolut Bank UK Ltd rather than as e-money accounts with safeguarding. The catch is that "GBP 10 a month" undersells how quickly the account gets more expensive. There is no free tier on any plan, and Basic's GBP 1,000 monthly FX allowance is small enough that a business with regular international payments can burn through it in the first week of the month, after which every pound past it costs 0.6%, with an extra 1% on any exchange made outside FX market hours. Want a dedicated account manager to sort out an edge case quickly? That is an Enterprise-only feature, and Enterprise is custom-priced. Phone support is not available on any plan. This review covers what a Revolut Business account actually costs once you go past your plan's FX allowance, which plan tier makes sense at your FX volume, and where else to look if the fees or the lack of human support turn out to be a dealbreaker. Tide has built its reputation on being the fastest way for a UK sole trader or small company to get a working business account, and the numbers back that up: over 2 million sole traders, freelancers, and limited companies now use it, with a 4.4 out of 5 rating on Trustpilot from more than 35,000 reviews. The free plan genuinely has no monthly fee, and the app is consistently praised for how quickly an account goes from download to approved. The catch shows up once money starts moving. The free plan only includes 5 bank transfers a month before per-transfer fees kick in, card payments made in a foreign currency cost 2.75% on that same plan, and Tide never lets you hold a balance in anything but GBP. Any EUR you receive through your IBAN gets auto-converted the moment it lands, so a business with real international cash flow ends up absorbing conversion costs on every single payment, not just the ones it chooses to convert. This review covers what each of Tide's four plans actually costs, who clears the eligibility bar and who doesn't, and where to look if Tide turns out not to fit. At a Glance

Who writes our articles, how we keep them accurate, and how to get in touch.
We focus on the practical side of running a small or medium business — company registration and maintenance, accounting and tax, multi-currency payments, FX, and the day-to-day decisions founders face when setting up or scaling in Hong Kong, Singapore, and beyond. If it touches your back office, we've probably written about it.
Our content is produced in-house by Statrys writers and reviewed by subject-matter experts on our corporate services, accounting, and payments teams — people who handle these processes for real clients every day. Each article shows the author at the top so you know exactly who stands behind it.
We track regulatory and product changes across the markets we operate in and refresh our articles regularly, especially anything covering tax rates, government fees, filing deadlines, or banking requirements. Each piece displays a "last updated" date so you can see at a glance how recent the information is.
Our articles are written to inform and help you understand your options, but they're not a substitute for personalised advice. For specific situations (e.g. incorporation choices, tax positions, or financial decisions) we recommend speaking to a qualified professional or reaching out to our team directly.
