To qualify for an account, your business must also meet the following requirements:
- Have an active status on Companies House
- Have at least one active company director listed
- Have at least one person of significant control (PSC) listed
- Be a tax resident in the UK only
- Earn income mainly from selling goods or providing services, rather than from investments or interest
- Not use the account to hold client money, such as escrow or trust funds
Some business types and industries are not eligible.

Monzo may also decline applications it considers high risk or outside its internal policies, so it is best to check the full and most up-to-date list on Monzo’s official eligibility page.

Note: You can open up to 3 business accounts with Monzo, but each must be for a different business.
What Documents Do I Need to Open a Monzo Business Account?
Now that eligibility is clear, here is what you need to prepare before starting the application.
Monzo keeps this process simple. Most company details are pulled automatically from Companies House, so you usually will not need to upload many documents unless the provider asks for extra checks.
You Will Need:
- A valid photo ID (Passport, driving licence, national ID card, or biometric residence permit)
- A short selfie video for identity verification
- Basic business details, including what your business does
- Personal details for directors and PSCs (date of birth, address, and basic identification details)
- Your registered company number if you are applying as a limited company
These are enough to complete onboarding for most applicants.
💡 When Monzo May Ask for More Information
How To Open a Monzo Business Account Online
You can begin your Monzo Business application either from the website or directly in the Monzo app. If you do not already have a Monzo personal account, you will complete the full onboarding in the app.
Monzo notes that business applications usually take a few days, and the timing depends on the checks required.
1
Enter Your Email to Get Started
Start on the Monzo website or download the Monzo app from the App Store or Google Play.

Monzo will ask for your email and send a secure magic link to begin the application.
If you already have a Monzo personal account, use the same email address to keep your details consistent.
2
Provide Your Personal Information
Monzo will ask you to provide the following information:
- Your full name
- Your date of birth
- Your email address
- Your UK home address
- Your phone number (an OTP will be sent for verification)
If you already have a Monzo personal or joint account, use the same email and phone number. The app will prefill much of your information automatically.
3
Provide Your Company Details
Next, Monzo will ask for a few details about your business, including:
- Business type
- Industry
- Business address
- Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR)
- Registered company name or number (for limited companies)
- How your business earns money
- Expected turnover
- Whether you trade internationally
You may also be asked to upload proof of business address, such as a utility bill or an HMRC letter.

Tip: If you are a limited company, Monzo will pull your business information directly from Companies House, so it is important that your records are up to date.
4
Verify Your Identity
This step happens inside the app. You will be asked to:
- Scan a valid photo ID
- Record a short selfie video
- Confirm details for any directors or persons of significant control (PSCs)
If a PSC already has a Monzo personal account, Monzo may verify them automatically without additional documents.
5
Choose Your Business Plan
Select the plan that suits your business: Business Lite, Business Pro, or Team.
You can change plans later if your needs change over time.
6
Activate Your Business Debit Card
Once your account is approved, Monzo will send your debit card to the address you provided.
- For limited companies: card sent to your business trading address
- For sole traders: card sent to your residential address
Activate the card in the app to start using your account.
